About Us > The Giving Cake

In August of 1996 Gregg's kicked off a unique community partnership with Hasbro Children's Hospital, an international model for children's health care. The partnership is formed around a luscious, four-layer chocolate peanut butter cake created by Gregg's master bakers specifically to benefit the children's hospital. Gregg's appropriately named the new specialty dessert the "Giving Cake." Each time a whole Giving Cake is purchased, $2 of the purchase price is donated to the children's hospital. Each slice purchased provides a 25-cent donation.
Ted Fuller, President of Gregg's, said, "At Gregg's, we believe that one of the most important things we can do is to give back to our community. We are so pleased to be able to support the vital programs at Hasbro Children's Hospital, and are fortunate to have generous customers who believe in the same spirit of giving as we do."
"Hasbro Children's Hospital relies on the continued and generous support of the community to provide much needed resources for it's world class medical programs," stated Aaron L. Friedman, MD, Pediatrician-in-chief. "It is the children and families we care for who will truly benefit from your generosity. We are honored to be partners with Gregg's, one of the finest companies in the state, to enable children to receive the highest quality healthcare so close to home. Thanks to you and everyone at Gregg's for such wonderful support."
"Hasbro Children's Hospital relies on the generous contributions from our community to make our mission a reality," said Dr. Joseph Amaral, President and CEO of Rhode Island Hospital. "It is the efforts of individuals and companies like Gregg's Restaurants that help our hospital create unique programs and invest in the latest technology to support our staff in providing the best care for children in southern New England."
Hasbro Children's Hospital is the state's premier pediatric facility and the pediatric division of Rhode Island Hospital. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the hospital. It is home to the region's first fetal surgery program and the area's only pediatric intensive care unit and pediatric oncology and outpatient cardiac programs along with an emergency department and surgical unit designed specifically for patients ranging in age from newborn to 18 years. Each year, the hospital cares for more than 6,000 inpatients, 63,000 outpatients and an additional 42,000 patients in its pediatric emergency department.
